The Jersey Brothers perform music from Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, and their contemporaries, with historical notes from the groups popular and on-going career. Seasoned performers, Norm and Randy Murray have appeared on the same bill as The Four Seasons, Johnny Rivers, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Diamonds, and Bill Haleys Comets. Uke Day DeKalb 2024

Hopkins Park 1403 Sycamore Road, DeKalb

Turn up on August 18, 2024 for Uke Day! Join Illinois Ukulele Society/Wild Blue Ukulele Orchestra for their second year celebrating everything ukulele! The event will be held at Hopkins Park in DeKalb, in both the community room downstairs and the Terrace room. Doors open at noon until 5 p.m., in the lower-level community room at Hopkins Park. Admission is $5, and the first 40 people get a free lei. Admission includes three uke workshops, a concert with the Wild Blue Ukulele Orchestra, and a fantastic strum and sing. Maybe you need a new ukulele or want to take lessons? There will be local music shop vendors, including Ax-in Hand, Ukulele Station of America, and Aurora Music Company. Wild Carrot food truck will be at the event, and Wild Blue Ukulele Orchestra is bringing back swap and sell, awesome raffle items (ukuleles!), crafts and much more. Uke Day is sponsored by the Illinois Ukulele Society and Wild Blue Ukulele Orchestra. The ukulele is a popular instrument, with more than 1,700,000 ukuleles sold annually in the United States of America. Many people in our area own a ukulele, come and play, listen, learn, shop, and have a great time! The event is open to all.

After-Hours Concert: The Twangtown Paramours

The Twangtown Paramours are a national touring, award-winning husband and wife duo and band from Nashville. Their music is a blend of Nashville, New York, and Austin influences and has been called “Soulful Americana”. Join the DeKalb Public Library in the main lobby as they welcome this band for the first time to perform an after-hours concert! Some of the Twangtown Paramours’ tunes are poetic, but many are just a whole lot of fun. Recently, other artists have begun recording their songs. They are 3-time Kerrville New Folk finalists and winners of the Wildflower Contest in Richardson, TX. Their newest full band album, “Double Down on a Bad Thing” was #11 on the U.K Indie Blues chart last year and #18 on the U.S. RMR Contemporary Blues chart. MaryBeth sang background vocals for the late Eva Cassidy. Mike is a session musician, songwriter, and producer, and is the author of a #1 platinum selling pop ballad in Korea. He also sometimes plays upright bass for Jimmie Dale Gilmore. This concert is free and open to all. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
