The parade will start at DeKalb High School and go east on Dresser Road. It will then travel south on Wildflower Lane, circle around Tallmeadow Drive, go east on Heatherfield Lane, north on Daniel Lane, west on Dresser Road and then north on Pride Avenue and back to the high school.
Celebrate the start of the holiday season in Downtown DeKalb with Lights on Lincoln and Santa Comes to Town! Enjoy holiday lights that line the streets and wave to Santa as he rides through Downtown DeKalb. Santa’s route will start at 6PM. Enjoy a Christmas tree lighting with hot chocolate in Van Buer Plaza once Santa stops at the Egyptian Theatre. Santa will be available for visits in his house in Van Buer Plaza after the Christmas tree lighting.

New this year…Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus. There will also be cookies and hot cocoa available with a donation. Don’t forget about the Early Bird Special: Come shop at 8am for a $10 donation. All proceeds go directly to helping the homeless pets at Tails Humane Society.
Our annual Holiday event! Tour the decorated Glidden Homestead and enjoy local history. Musical performance by DeKalb High School orchestra students. More details coming soon. Join DeKalb Public Library for a fun children’s storytime at the historic Glidden Homestead at 1 pm! “Annie’s Storytime” will be held on the lawn of the Glidden Homestead, 921 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb (next to Glidden Florist.) Storytime will be held from 1-1:30 pm, and will be moved inside depending on the weather. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on the front lawn. These interactive storytimes may feature songs, movement and more. The program is free for all attendees. Stick around after the program for a tour of the homestead and blacksmithing demonstrations.
Parents, are you in need of a few extra hours to finish up Christmas Shopping or wrapping presents without the kids around? On Friday, December 15th from 6:00-8:00pm the Kishwaukee Family YMCA will be hosting a Parents’ Night Out at the YMCA for ages 5-14. Kids will enjoy a Christmas Friendly Movie with snacks and drinks provided. (Families are welcomed to stay for the event and participate in the movie) To register, click HERE.
It’s the holiday season and a perfect time to build a gingerbread house with the family! Join us for our fifth annual STEM Gingerbread House Family Fun Science. We’ll have the supplies to build—graham crackers, frosting, and candy. Bring your creative ideas! At the end, we’ll have a friendly competition for Best House and the winner will get a $5 Target gift card. There is a limit of 30 children. Travel through the “seven layers of the candy cane forest, past the sea of twirly-swirly gumdrops,” and enter the world of Elf and the North Pole right here in DeKalb!
