Celebrate Halloween by trick-or-treating in Downtown DeKalb for the 26th Annual Spooktacular! Invite your friends and family to put on their costumes and trick-or-treat at over 20 Downtown DeKalb businesses from 4-6PM on Thursday, October 26th. After trick-or-treating, the Egyptian Theatre will be offering a FREE movie showing of Casper at 6:30PM. No ticket or RSVP required.
Celebrate the start of the holiday season in Downtown DeKalb with Lights on Lincoln and Santa Comes to Town! Enjoy holiday lights that line the streets and wave to Santa as he rides through Downtown DeKalb. Santa’s route will start at 6PM. Enjoy a Christmas tree lighting with hot chocolate in Van Buer Plaza once Santa stops at the Egyptian Theatre. Santa will be available for visits in his house in Van Buer Plaza after the Christmas tree lighting.
Do your holiday shopping at Tails! Shop new items at discounted prices. Holiday decor, kitchen items, bedding sets, toys, candles, pet essentials and more! New this year…Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus. There will also be cookies and hot cocoa available with a donation. Don’t forget about the Early Bird Special: Come shop at 8am for a $10 donation. All proceeds go directly to helping the homeless pets at Tails Humane Society.
Parents, are you in need of a few extra hours to finish up Christmas Shopping or wrapping presents without the kids around? On Friday, December 15th from 6:00-8:00pm the Kishwaukee Family YMCA will be hosting a Parents’ Night Out at the YMCA for ages 5-14. It’s the holiday season and a perfect time to build a gingerbread house with the family! Join us for our fifth annual STEM Gingerbread House Family Fun Science. We’ll have the supplies to build—graham crackers, frosting, and candy. Bring your creative ideas! At the end, we’ll have a friendly competition for Best House and the winner will get a $5 Target gift card. There is a limit of 30 children.
