Soup-er Sunday: History of Percheron & Morgan Horses

February 4 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

$5
Admission is $5 per person, free for Homestead members, and includes the program, a bowl of soup and a house tour. The program will be led by Judie Wright, who has raised, shown and bred Morgan horses since the 1970s at her farm, Bellmara Stables, in South Beloit.
“My love of horses began at the age of three when my family moved to a farm in Malta,” Wright said.
Joseph Glidden was one of the first people to introduce the Percheron horse to this region and helped initiate its use on farms here. He bred and raised the horses in the 1870 brick barn at the Glidden Homestead.
Wright and her family’s long and continuing work with the Morgan horse will also be shared. This breed is known for its stamina as well as its extensive history in the United States, as it was the first horse breed developed in the United States.
Soup-er Sunday programs support the J.F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center in DeKalb, a not-for-profit organization working to preserve the home and barn, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These programs will be held at 12 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of January, February and March. Visit GliddenHomestead.org for the full list.
