Ellwood House

The Ellwood House Museum is a historic site situated on ten acres of parkland in the heart of DeKalb, Illinois. The museum campus consists of seven historic structures, including the 1879 Ellwood Mansion and 1900 Ellcourt House, four gardens, and 6,000 square feet of exhibit space in the Patience Ellwood Towle Visitor Center, a converted and expanded 1912 multi-car garage. In 1965, the Ellwood Mansion was given to the DeKalb Park District by Mrs. May Ellwood and her three children. Historic McCabe’s Set to Reopen in May After 26 Years!

Historic McCabe’s Set to Reopen in May After 26 Years! If you live in DeKalb or even if you are just visiting you most likely have seen the beautiful and historic McCabe’s building in the heart of downtown. It’s four story intricate façade is an eye-catching element of the downtown area.   The building was first built in 1884 the building has been through many different owners and stages in its history. It was a bank, an Ace Hardware, but most notably it was McCabe’s Nightclub. McCabe’s opened in 1933 (not at the current location) and quickly became a beloved gathering spot for the community. After its closure, McCabe’s remained a cherished memory for many, with many still talking about its legendary nights of years past. But now, the wait is finally over! After being for sale for more than two decades the building was purchased on 12/28/2023 $618,500 and is now under Galindo management   From our sources we are not sure if McCabe’s will be used the same as it used to be. We know that it will be used as a venue space hosting music, receptions, and private events. We don’t however know if it will be open to the public as a bar and nightclub like it once was. The reopening of McCabe’s is not just a celebration for the locals; it’s a testament of the enduring spirit of community. The return of this iconic venue will undoubtedly create new memories in DeKalb.   So come back here soon and we will keep you up to date on future news of McCabe’s.
